With Michael Thomas expected to miss at least the first month of the season, the New Orleans Saints are in need of a few reinforcements at the wide receiver position. In an effort to bolster their receiving corps, the franchise brought in a group of wideouts this Tuesday.
According to ESPN’s Field Yates, former first-round pick Kevin White was one of the receivers in New Orleans this Tuesday for a workout.
In his final year at West Virginia, White had 109 catches for 1,447 yards and 10 touchdowns. The Chicago Bears were so impressed with his production at the collegiate level that they used the seventh overall pick on him in the 2015 NFL Draft.
White never lived up to the high expectations set for him in Chicago. He had just 25 receptions for 285 yards during his time with the Bears.
After his stint with the Bears ran its course, White signed a one-year contract with the Arizona Cardinals. Despite his potential, he didn’t make the 53-man roster for the 2019 season. He then signed with the San Francisco 49ers the following season, but he was unable to make much of an impact in Kyle Shanahan’s offense.

It’d be unrealistic to expect White to suddenly blossom into a reliable wide receiver at this stage in his career. However, the Saints clearly have a need at the position and may have a vision for the West Virginia product.
The Saints’ second preseason game will take place next Monday against the Jacksonville Jaguars. We’ll see if they sign another wideout prior to that matchup.
