The SEC is widely considered the best conference in college football, and reports have emerged today that Big 12 titans Oklahoma and Texas want in. Those reports have one SEC head coach intrigued enough to give a warning to them.
Appearing on The Paul Finebaum Show, Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher made it clear that he feels the SEC is the best football conference. He warned Oklahoma and Texas that if the two do gain admission to the conference, they might come to regret it.
“Listen, it’s the best league in ball, and I’m sure they would like to be here,” Fisher said. “That’s something that Commissioner Sankey and them will have to gauge and see if that’s something the SEC wants to do. That’s still hard to say… I’ll say this though — be careful what you ask for in this league.”
Jimbo Fisher knows firsthand just how tough of a climb it is to go from any other conference to the SEC. In eight years at FSU he led the Seminoles to 10 or more wins six times.
But since joining the Aggies in 2018, Fisher has yet to win more than nine games in a season. Texas A&M have yet to reach the SEC Championship Game since joining the conference in 2012.

Oklahoma and Texas have dominated the Big 12 Conference since its inception. But while joining the SEC would likely further improve their College Football Playoff odds, the level of competition would likely get much fiercer.
While the SEC does have its minnows the same way that the Big 12 does, there are far more teams that will regularly give them trouble. Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Florida, LSU, Texas A&M and others can give Oklahoma and Texas headaches that the other eight Big 12 members rarely can.
Should Oklahoma and Texas reconsider their alleged efforts to gain SEC membership?
