Shaquem Griffin Reportedly Signs With New NFL Team

Shaquem Griffin breaks up a pass.

Linebacker Shaquem Griffin is one of the most inspirational stories in NFL history. His left hand was amputated when he was four years old, but it hasn’t stopped him from playing in college or the NFL.

But after three years with the Seattle Seahawks, who drafted him in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft, Griffin hit free agency this offseason. He spent a few months looking for a new team before finally finding one today.

According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Griffin is signing a one-year deal with the Miami Dolphins. The move comes just days after NFL insider Tom Pelissero reported that the Dolphins were bringing him in for a visit.

Last year Griffin played a career-high 113 snaps on defense. He finished the year with nine tackles, one tackle for loss, three QB hits and recorded his first professional sack.

In three NFL seasons, Griffin has 25 tackles, six QB hits and one pass defended.

The #Dolphins are signing ex-#Seahawks LB Shaquem Griffin to a 1-year deal, source said. Some LB depth and special teams help. Colleague @TomPelissero had reported he was in for a visit. Now, he’s sticking around.

As a linebacker at UCF, Shaquem Griffin overcame his physical limitations to become one of the best defenders in school history. He was a two-time First-Team All-AAC selection, a Second-Team All-American, and the Peach Bowl MVP in his final college game.

However, those same limitations that Griffin overcame in college still made him a tough prospect to grade in the 2018 NFL Draft. Some thought he had tons of potential while others thought he’d be a UDFA at best.

But Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll decided to give Griffin a chance, drafting him 141st overall and reuniting him with his brother, then-Seahawks cornerback Shaquill Griffin.

Shaquill has since moved to the Jacksonville Jaguars, but now Shaquem will be joining his brother in the Orange State.

Good luck!
