Simone Biles, who’s widely recognized as the best gymnast in the world right now, looked nothing like herself during Sunday’s qualification meet at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Biles are her USA teammates had a shaky performance at Sunday’s meet. They finished a point behind Russia in Sunday’s qualifying rounds. Biles even had a few missteps during the competition.
Luckily, the 24-year-old Olympic superstar can put Sunday’s meet behind her. Biles made the cut and she’s moving on to compete in Tuesday’s women’s gymnastics team final.
Biles took to Instagram on Sunday to reflect on her performance at the qualifications meet. She admitted she feels the pressure of an entire nation resting on her shoulders.
“it wasn’t an easy day or my best but I got through it,” Biles said on Instagram. “I truly do feel like I have the weight of the world on my shoulders at times. I know I brush it off and make it seem like pressure doesn’t affect me but damn sometimes it’s hard hahaha! The olympics is no joke! BUT I’m happy my family was able to be with me virtually🤍 they mean the world to me!”

Simone Biles and USA women’s gymnastics is still the favorite to win gold at Tuesday’s meet, but they’ll have to clean up their mistakes.
Biles, in particular, is capable of getting USA to gold. Her scores during Sunday’s meet were lower than what we’ve come to expect from her.
The 24-year-old has the pressure of a nation resting on her shoulders. She knows it. The rest of us do, as well.
We’ll find out on Tuesday whether or not she’s capable of forgetting the pressure and performing at her best.
