Debates over the best team in college football have started anew with the release of the preseason AP Top 25 poll this week. Alabama claimed the top spot after last year’s national championship and undefeated season, but Oklahoma, Clemson, Ohio State and Georgia make up a talented group ready to challenge the Crimson Tide this fall.
For Skip Bayless, the best college football team in the country isn’t the one ranked No. 1 in the season’s first poll.
The FOX Sports host claimed that the Tide are “out” and that Oklahoma is “in” and should lay claim to the top spot in the newest poll. With Heisman Trophy contender Spencer Rattler under center and a defense that greatly improved over the course of the 2020 season, the Sooners are the clear best team in the country in Bayless’s estimation.
“Oklahoma is better than Alabama and should be ranked No. 1,” Bayless wrote on Twitter Monday night. “Spencer Rattler will win the Heisman. Tide will miss Sarkisian. Bill O’Brien isn’t in Lincoln Riley’s league as a play-caller. OU’s O will be much better, D underrated. Tide is out. Sooners are in.

It’s worth pointing out that Bayless if from Oklahoma City, which could’ve influenced his decision to put the Sooners over the Crimson Tide. However, he’s not the only one that’s picked Oklahoma to be No. 1 over the last few weeks.
Scores of college football media members placed the Sooners at the top of their rankings in the preseason poll based on the amount of talent that Lincoln Riley has returning to Norman. Oklahoma will be the favorites to win the Big 12 and could make the playoff for the first time since the 2019 season.
The Sooners will begin their pursuit of national championship run on Sept. 4 against Tulane.
