Jake Dolegala was with the Green Bay Packers earlier this offseason. The Central Connecticut product has bounced around a bit over the last few months, but with the injury to Jordan Love, the Packers brought him back to bolster their offseason depth at the position.
Love looked solid early on during the Packers’ preseason opener against the Houston Texans, but wound up leaving early with a shoulder injury. Luckily, the MRI came back clean, and it isn’t expected to be a major issue for Love. Still, Green Bay is being safe with things.
Aaron Rodgers isn’t expected to see much time this preseason. That leaves Kurt Benkert as the only active Packers QB, if Love sits out. Dolegala, who was released by the team on July 27, knows the system and personnel and could get the chance to prove himself in a preseason game or two this summer.
After his release from Green Bay, he was picked up by the New England Patriots. He spent most of the 2020 season with the Pats’ practice squad, but was waived after the team drafted Mac Jones. New England added him on July 28, but waived him on Aug. 9.
The #Packers are re-signing QB Jake Dolegala per @glose_matt of @GenSportsGroup. With Jordan Love (shoulder) out a bit, Dolegala will help with the reps.

The Packers lost the first preseason game to the Texans 26-7. Love was 12-for-17 for 122 yards and a touchdown, finding Kyle Hill on a screen for a 22-yard score.
Benkert was 8-for-12 for 88 yards, but threw a costly interception as well.
The Packers return to preseason play on Saturday against the New York Jets. We’ll see if Love is available to go against another vaunted young quarterback, Zach Wilson. The No. 2 pick looked pretty sharp in his first NFL action against the New York Giants.
