The Washington Football Team has signed a new quarterback following the injury to veteran starter Ryan Fitzpatrick.
Fitzpatrick, Washington’s Week 1 starter, left Sunday’s loss to the Los Angeles Chargers with a hip injury. He is reportedly expected to miss an extended period of time.
Washington is likely to go with Taylor Heinicke at the starter position moving forward. However, the Football Team added some depth to the position on Monday morning.
According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, the Washington Football Team has signed quarterback Kyle Shurmur to the practice squad.
“With Washington Football Team QB Ryan Fitzpatrick set to miss extended time with a hip subluxation, WFT has signed Kyle Shurmur to the practice squad,” Rapoport reports.

Cam Newton has also been mentioned as a potential option for the Washington Football Team in the wake of Fitzpatrick’s injury. Newton played for head coach Ron Rivera in Carolina and he’s currently a free agent.
However, it doesn’t sound like the NFC East franchise will be pursuing Newton as an option – at least not anytime soon.
Washington is set to face the New York Giants on Thursday night.
