Washington Commanders punter Tress Way is the longest-tenured player on the team. He is also one of the biggest personalities on the squad, who also happens to be elite at his position.
During Monday’s win over the Philadelphia Eagles, fortunately, Way didn’t have to see the field too much as Washington’s offensive controlled the football for much of the game.
When Washington’s offense went three-and-out on its first possession, Way came in to punt from his 13-yard line. Way hit a 47-yard punt but was crushed by Philadelphia’s Britain Covey, who was flagged for roughing the kicker.
It was the correct call. Way was hit hard — while he was mic’d up.

“Holy s—!” Way said. “What the hell.”
Way then got up and left tackle Charles Leno adjusted his shoulder pads. Leno joked with Way as did tight end Logan Thomas as the offense jogged back on the field.
Head coach Ron Rivera even met Way on the sideline and shared a laugh with him.
“Golly, golly,” repeated Way.
“Every time I’m freaking mic’d up I get my world rocked,” he said.
Way took the hit and got the penalty, but unfortunately, Washington immediately turned the ball over leading to Philadelphia’s first touchdown.
In the end, the Commanders pulled off the upset to move to 5-5 on the season.
