It’s been over six years since professional wrestling superstar CM Punk last competed with WWE. But amid numerous reports and rumors, this could be the week that he makes his return to the ring – just not a WWE ring.
On Monday, Punk took to Instagram with a cryptic message that has wrestling fans giddy. He posted a blank screen with the numbers “05,” “11” and “21.”
The Twitter detectives quickly deduced what it symbolized. 2005 was the year Punk signed with WWE. 2011 was the year he re-signed with WWE. So 2021 can only mean one thing.
All Elite Wrestling is slated to hold its AEW Rampage event in Chicago this week. Chicago just so happens to be Punk’s hometown.
Needless to say, AEW, WWE and general wrestling fans alike believe this is the week Punk makes his return to the ring.

CM Punk rapidly climbed the WWE mountain between 2006 and 2011, capturing numerous titles and becoming one of the company’s biggest stars. In November 2011, he won the WWE Championship and held the title for 434 days – the sixth longest reign in the belt’s storied history.
But Punk retired in 2014 at the age of 35 and spent the next few years trying his hands at mixed martial arts. He was given his shot by the UFC, competing at UFC 203 and UFC 225, losing to Mickey Gall and Mike Jackson respectively.
Now it looks like he’s ready to make his return to the squared circle. He may be 42, but fans have been clamoring for him to come back for ages.
Will we see CM Punk make his return this week?
