Soccer, go!
Hello! It is Thursday, my normal day for doing Freedom Kicks. Last night we finished season 2 of Ted Lasso and I have a lot of Nate Feelings, so I’m going to create one spoiler filled thread down below if folks want to talk about it. Minimize the thread if you don’t want to see it or haven’t caught up yet.
Anyways, to the links!
Washington Spirit hang on for vital 2-1 win at North Carolina Courage
After having to forfeit two games due to violations of Covid restrictions, it seemed like the Washington Spirit were in a lot of trouble. And, to be frank, they were. But since those forfeits, they are unbeaten in their past 4 games, having gained 10 points, and have jumped into third place in the league, one point above North Carolina, Houston, and Chicago.
Some @WashSpirit notes from a source:
Michele Kang offered to pay for the team’s jersey sponsorship rights, a $1m deal for Cognosante for the remainder of the 2021 season. But Steve Baldwin said no and accepted a $200,000 deal with IntelliBridge.— Bob Williams (@WilliamsBob75) October 13, 2021
Because no good Washington Spirit news can come without bad off the field news, Steve Baldwin took a much worse deal for the Spirit’s jersey rights just to spite Michele Kang. You know what today is? Today would be a great day for Steve Baldwin and Bill Lynch to sell the team.
BREAKING: According to sources, the #NWSL Championship is moving to Louisville (and will be played at noon! same window but different time zone!), thanks to the request of the players.

There should have never had to have been player requests, but the NWSL has changed the location of the Championship game so that it can kick off at noon local time instead of the absurd 9am local time.

Lineup Change: Tim Weah will replace Paul Arriola who was injured during tonight’s warmup. https://t.co/4a0yr2caBn

After looking to straight three straight games in the international window, Paul Arriola pulled up injured with a groin injury before last night’s game. International teams should be banned, stop hurting our players, thanks I hate it.
After going down early, the USMNT did manage to grab three points against Costa Rica to keep themselves near the top of the Octagonal in this round of qualifiers.
That’s all I have today. What’s up?
