2025 MLB All-Star Frontrunners: Position-by-Position Outfield Edition

The best time in all of sports has officially arrived: the summer of baseball. What does that mean exactly? Every other league takes a backseat while Major League Baseball drives through the warm months as the only professional sport with competitive games. And with that comes one of the game’s most beloved traditions: the MLB All-Star Game.

Each year, fans vote for who they think deserves to start—and often, that includes names from their favorite teams or simply the biggest stars in the sport. But as we’ve seen in years past, fan voting can be… complicated. Just ask 2021 Bryce Harper, who posted a .282 average with 15 homers and a .899 OPS by midseason and still didn’t make the cut.
In this series, we’ll be breaking down the players most deserving of MLB All-Star nods, along with a few dark horse names who might sneak in if the stars align, and next up, we’ll be going position-by-position in the outfield.

2025 MLB All-Star Favorites: Outfield

AMERICAN LEAGUE

LF – Riley Greene

Riley Greene has been one of the main staples in the Detroit Tigers’ offense, one that’ll most likely be there for the next decade. Greene brought much hope for Tigers fans over the last several seasons, ranking as the No. 1 prospect in the MLB Pipeline in July of 2022. The 24-year-old has undoubtedly proven his worth, batting .291 with 17 home runs and 59 RBI, while holding a .875 OPS. If Greene starts in left field for the American League, the Tigers could have two All-Star starters, just showing their dominance in the 2025 season.

CF – Byron Buxton

Byron Buxton is easily one of the most talented players in all of baseball. His problem? Staying healthy. Buxton brings elite offense and speed to the Twins whenever he’s in the lineup, but he struggles to stay on the field consistently. Over just the last three seasons, Buxton missed 15 games, almost an entire season, due to several different injuries. In 2025, the 31-year-old has started in 59 games, batting .285 with 17 home runs and 47 RBI, his usual elite numbers when playing baseball. Buxton leads all AL center fielders in most stats, making this selection a no-doubter.

RF – Aaron Judge

This one’s another no-brainer. Aaron Judge is off to a historic start, on pace to shatter numerous records. The two-time AL MVP looks to add another, leading the league in almost every offensive category, batting .367 with 27 home runs and 61 RBI, while holding a 1.195 OPS. Even the best struggle sometimes. Judge currently finds himself in a “slump,” batting .282 over his last 20 games, but he’s made up for it in the power department, hitting eight home runs through the stretch. Judge leads all players in All-Star votes, and rightfully so. For the fifth straight season, Judge will play outfield for the American League in the MLB All-Star Game.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

LF – James Wood

The problem with smaller markets? Players who deserve to be the face of the league never get the opportunity, since teams like the Los Angeles Dodgers have guys towering over them. James Wood is the perfect face for MLB, a young, talented slugger who delivers in the clutch, almost like past Nationals prospects Juan Soto and Bryce Harper. The 22-year-old already finds himself in the National League MVP race, hitting .279 with 21 home runs, 57 RBI, and a .934 OPS. But somehow, the Nationals’ starting left fielder doesn’t even crack the top 10 in outfield voting. Although the results aren’t looking too positive, this will most likely change. Players and coaches should push Wood once the second phase of voting opens up, giving him the praise he deserves.

CF – Pete Crow-Armstrong

Just like James Wood, Pete Crow-Armstrong also finds himself in contention for the league’s future face. The difference? PCA is widely acknowledged across the league, which is why he’s one of the leaders in vote-getters. PCA has played on an entirely different level, showcasing his elite fielding, hitting, and baserunning, becoming the first player in the league to hit 20 home runs and swipe 20 bags. The 23-year-old entered the big leagues as a huge question mark; nobody knew he’d get off to a start like this. He’s now batting .269 with 21 home runs and 61 RBIs. To keep inventory, Crow-Armstrong came to the Cubs in a trade that sent Javier Báez to the New York Mets. This is something that the Mets will have held over their heads for the rest of eternity due to the sudden stardom of PCA.

RF – Corbin Carroll

The National League has entered an entirely new era. The entire NL All-Star starting outfield will be under the age of 25, that is, if voting currently holds. Corbin Carroll, once the 16th overall pick in the 2019 MLB Draft, followed just behind Gunnar Henderson on the MLB Pipeline during their climb to the big leagues. Carroll has become one of the best young stars in baseball, winning NL Rookie of the Year in 2023 and finishing third in MVP voting. He’s continued the consistency we’ve seen throughout his four-year career, batting .254 with 20 home runs and a 2.3 WAR to start the season. Carroll has already helped lead the Diamondbacks on a World Series run, with many more accolades likely to come.
