Coast Guard cutter heads for annual mission to Antarctica

Three cheers for the nation’s only heavy icebreaker — U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Polar Star — which has departed its homeport, Seattle. and is bound for Antarctica in support of Operation Deep Freeze, a joint military service mission to resupply U.S. Antarctic stations of the National Science Foundation.
