The Nationals are getting a big boost with the return of their star shortstop
A couple weeks ago the Washington Nationals put CJ Abrams on the IL with a hip flexor injury. Now the Nationals have their shortstop back. With CJ coming back, Trey Lipscomb is being sent back down to Triple-A.
We have made the following roster moves:
– CJ Abrams reinstated from the 10-day IL
– Trey Lipscomb optioned to Triple-A Rochester— Washington Nationals (@Nationals) April 24, 2025
Abrams was off to a hot start, with an .874 OPS and four home runs in 41 at bats. He also showed off his signature speed, stealing four times without being caught. This will lengthen the Nationals lineup and give the team more threats.
One thing I am curious about is where he is going to hit. It will likely be leadoff, but James Wood has been going off in the leadoff spot, and I like the look of Wood in that role. Wood has four homers in his seven games as a leadoff man.

Having multiple players you love in the leadoff spot is a good problem to have and a luxury for the Nationals. The Nats offense has been really inconsistent without CJ.
From game to game, or even inning to inning, you don’t know what you are going to get. The Nats offense goes on extended lulls before exploding seemingly out of nowhere. Hopefully having a bat like CJ helps that out.
They are great defenders, but watching Jacob Young and Nasim Nunez in the 8 and 9 hole was not a great watch. The best you could hope for was a weak single, but it was mostly just strikeouts or tappers.
Abrams brings another threat to the Nats lineup, which they need. Welcome back CJ!
