Nationals Recall Triple-A Reliever to Replace Injured Pitcher

August 29, 2024 by Last Word On Baseball

The Washington Nationals recalled Orlando Ribalta from Triple-A Rochester on Wednesday, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports. Washington placed Joan Adon (bicep) on the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move. Ribalta, 26, permitted three runs over two innings in two appearances with the Nationals earlier this month. The decision to promote Ribalta for a second time comes within a week after calling up highly touted prospect Dylan Crews, who made his major league debut this past

The Nationals just announced that they’ve recalled Orlando Ribalta from Triple-A Rochester and placed Joan Adon on the 15-day IL (retroactive to Aug. 25) with a right shoulder biceps strain.

Nationals Recall Orlando Ribalta to Replace Joan Adon

Ribalta’s performance in the minor leagues last season was nothing short of remarkable, solidifying his status as a rising star within the Washington organization. Throughout the season, he made an impressive 44 relief appearances split between Double-A and Triple-A levels, demonstrating both his versatility and reliability on the mound. His record for the season stood at an impressive 5-2, complemented by five saves, underscoring his effectiveness in critical situations. His 2.64 ERA reflected his ability to limit opposing batters, holding them to a meager .194 batting average. Over 47 2/3 innings pitched, Ribalta’s dominance continued, as evidenced by his 69 strikeouts against batters, while surrendering just four home runs.

Ribalta’s journey to this point began after Washington selected him in the 12th round of the 2019 MLB Draft following his tenure at Miami Dade Community College. Over the five seasons he has spent in the minors since then, Ribalta has compiled a commendable record of 13-7, with a 3.35 ERA across 127 games. His strikeout tally stands at an impressive 195 in 166 2/3 innings pitched, further highlighting his potential as a future mainstay in Washington’s bullpen.

At 26 years old, Adon has appeared in eight games—starting one—for the Nationals, recording a 6.75 ERA during these outings. His tenure with the team, to date, has seen him post an overall ERA of 6.72 in the major leagues. Despite these challenges, Adon has managed to strike out 116 batters, an indication of his raw talent and potential. As the season progresses, both Ribalta and Adon’s developments will be closely watched by the Nationals, hoping for growth and consistency that could shape the team’s future.
