The Washington Nationals pulled the trigger and fired GM Mike Rizzo and Manager Dave Martinez
The Washington Nationals decided changes needed to be made. After getting swept by the Red Sox, Jeff Passan reported that the Nationals have fired Mike Rizzo and Davey Martinez.

It is a surreal moment, as Rizzo has been GM since 2009 and Martinez has been manager since 2018. The pair led the Nats to a World Series title in 2019, but it has been tough sledding since then.
Since 2020, only the Rockies have more losses than the Nationals. This rebuild was leading up to this season, but the 2025 season has been a massive disappointment.
Despite All-Star level production from James Wood, CJ Abrams and MacKenzie Gore, the team is in last place with a 37-52 record. The pairs options were due to be decided on in July, and I guess the decision has been made.
It is a major reversal from owner Mark Lerner who has not had an itchy trigger finger in his tenure as owner. He will now have to find a new GM and manager. There is so much ahead for the Nationals and so many choices to make.
What will happen with the draft just a week away and the deadline later this month? We will break down all angles in the coming days. However, this is a shocking development and we will update the readers as more information comes out.
UPDATE:
The Nationals have put out a statement confirming the news. Mike DeBartolo will take over as interim GM and a new interim manager will be decided on tomorrow.
