UFC Fight Night: Viera vs Tate Ultimate Odds Guide

November 18, 2021 by The Sports Fan Journal

In an event featuring former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Miesha Tate looking to work her way back up the rankings, we’re here to bring you all the best action.

All odds featured are available on BetMGM.

Michael Chiesa to defeat Sean Brady: +135

When Michael Chiesa stepped into the Octagon against Vicente Luque at UFC 265 in August many viewed the Ultimate Fighter Season 15 winner as being on the verge of title contention. Unfortunately for Chiesa, Luque would emerge victorious that night ending the Coloradan’s undefeated streak since moving up to 170lbs in 2018.

With that being said, Chiesa will look to begin his ascent up the rankings once more in the co-main event as he takes on undefeated prospect Sean Brady.

A Brazilian Jiu-jitsu black belt and former Cage Fury FC Welterweight Champion, Brady made his debut in the big show back in 2019 and has since gone on to rack up four consecutive victories with the most recent being a submission win over perennial welterweight contender Jake Matthews at UFC 259 back in March.

Despite Chiesa’s proven pedigree in the welterweight division, oddsmakers have placed him as a firm underdog as he looks to be the first man to get his hand raised against the super-prospect Brady.

However, we’re backing him to do just that. Chiesa’s relentless wrestling offence and dynamic submission game make him a tough out for anyone on his day, and we think that those factors combined with his more extensive Octagon experience will allow him to get the upset on Saturday night.

Ketlen Vieira to defeat Miesha Tate: -115

When Miesha Tate defied the odds to upset Holly Holm with a fifth-round submission back to capture the UFC Women’s Bantamweight title back in 2016, she had reached the pinnacle of the sport.

Despite finally getting the career-defining victory she had always wanted, Tate’s run with the title would be short-lived as she was unceremoniously dethroned in just over three minutes in her first defence against women’s MMA GOAT Amanda Nunes in the main event of the flagship UFC 200 card. A further loss to Raquel Pennington later that year led Tate to call time on her career, before making her return to the Octagon after nearly five years with a win over Marion Reneau in July.

Despite Tate’s feel-good return opening the door to talks of a return to title contention, her next opponent, 11-2 Brazilian Ketlen Vieira marks a significantly tougher challenge for the former UFC champion.

With dual black belts in both BJJ and Judo, Vieira has shown some of the most dominating grappling skills in the division earning her a top ten spot in the UFC women’s bantamweight rankings.

In this battle of the grapplers do not be surprised to see both fighters looking to take the fight to the mat and achieve a dominant position. However, it remains to be seen if Tate can still hang with the upper echelons of the division and with oddsmakers currently having this close to a pick-em, the smart money is on the more active fighter, in this case, Vieira, getting her hand raised when it’s all said and done.

Davey Grant to defeat Adrian Yanez: +225

Caught having to pick a side in a battle between my countryman and my namesake, it wasn’t easy picking a winner in this battle of bantamweight prospects.

Grant is probably best known to fans for his stint on Team Rousey on Season 18 of The Ultimate Fighter, where he reached the finale before being defeated by Team Alpha Male product Chris Holdsworth.

After a litany of injuries, Grant would not grace the Octagon for a further 25 months and even then won just one of his first three fights on the main roster. The Englishman’s talents were evident though and with three wins, and three post-fight bonuses, in his last four outings, it seems Grant may finally have hit his stride in the UFC.

Standing across the cage from him on Saturday night is Adrian Yanez, a veteran of Dana White’s contender Series and BJJ black belt who has put the 135lb division on notice thanks to a trio of knockouts in his first three Octagon appearances, all of which earned him Performance of the Night honours.

Yanez is clearly a devastating fighter when he gets the opportunity to showcase his talents, but Grant’s experience at the highest levels combined with his current line makes the Englishman an attractive option for anyone looking to add some weight to their parlay.

Joanne Wood to defeat Talia Santos: +260

Formerly known as Joanne Calderwood prior to her marriage to Syndicate MMA head coach John Wood earlier this month, Scottish flyweight Wood has been a consistent fixture in the UFC ever since she first appeared as a contestant on the 20th season of The Ultimate Fighter back in 2014.

One of the most experienced women in the organisation, Wood has fought just about everyone in the UFC’s burgeoning women’s 125lb division and even worked her way up to a title shot against the seemingly unstoppable Valentina Shevchenko last year before missing out for losing a short-notice bout with fellow contender Jennifer Maia.

Wood’s opponent on Saturday is 18-1 Talia Santos, who earned her spot in the UFC after winning on the Brazilian edition of Dana White’s Contender Series. Since then Santos has won three of her four bouts in the promotion on the way to securing a top ten spot in the rankings, with her sole UFC loss being a contentious split decision to Mara Romero Borella.

Despite Wood often being disparaged for the inconsistency of her performances inside the Octagon, it is hard to deny that her striking presents a problem for almost anyone in the weight class when she’s at her best. Santos may well prove to be too much for the Scot, but do not be surprised if Wood manages to defy the odds en-route to victory.
