The Washington Nationals have finally moved off of Kyle Finnegan and received a pair of solid pitching prospects in return
The day has finally come, Kyle Finnegan has finally been traded. After years of speculation, the long time Nationals closer has finally been dealt. He was shipped to the Detroit Tigers for pitching prospects Josh Randall and RJ Sales.

Finnegan has been a National his whole career. He has put up a 3.66 ERA in 331 outings. Finnegan had a fantastic start to the season, but a few blowup outings recently have seen his ERA balloon to 4.38.
Interestingly, Finnegan was actually born in Detroit, but grew up in Texas. That means this will be a homecoming of sorts for him. In return for their long time closer, the Nats got a couple pitching prospects who were drafted in 2024.
The main piece of the deal is Josh Randall, the Tigers 15th ranked prospect. Randall was a third round pick last year. He is a guy who pounds the zone, walking only 1.68 batters per nine innings this season.

He is not an overpowering guy, striking out less than 8 batters per nine innings this year. However, he has a heavy sinker in the mid 90’s and a solid slider to go with it. Randall has the look of an old school innings eater who could be a back of the rotation starter one day.
The second piece is RJ Sales, another pitcher the Tigers took last draft. He is pretty similar to Randall in a lot of ways. Good strike thrower, but not overpowering stuff.
The Nationals need more arms in the system and these guys are two decent arms. With his volitile ways, Finnegan was never going to get a massive haul, but these are two solid arms.
