Follow along as the slumping Nats take on the disappointing O’s
Heading into the season, the Nats were supposed to be a young team on the rise pushing towards .500 and the O’s were supposed to be a legitimate contender in the AL. Neither of these things have happened, and now the two teams meet in a crossroads weekend series.
Ace MacKenzie Gore will be on the mound for the Nats as they look to get going after losing 8 of 9. Josh Bell is out of the lineup, meaning James Wood will DH and Alex Call will play left field. Luis Garcia Jr. is back from paternity leave, but he will not be in the lineup tonight. Instead, Nasim Nunez will get a rare start at second base.

While the O’s rotation has been the most glaring weakness, the Orioles lineup has also failed to deliver on their preseason expectations. Like the Nats, their star player will DH, with Gunnar Henderson getting off his feet. Ramon Laureano has had a lot of success against Gore in his career, so he will be in the lineup as well. Jorge Mateo will play shortstop with Henderson DH’ing. Cade Povich, who had a lot of success against the Nats in his start earlier in the season will be on the mound.
Updated lineup for tonight:
DH – Henderson
1B – Mountcastle
C – Rutschman
LF – Laureano
RF – O’Hearn
3B – Urías
2B – Holliday
CF – Mullins
SS – Mateo
P – Povich— Baltimore Orioles (@Orioles) May 16, 2025
