Final game of a three-game series as the Washington Nationals (18-20) try to defend their home turf against the Cleveland Guardians (21-15)
As the Washington Nationals fight to get back to a winning record, they have an opportunity to win back-to-back series and only be two games under .500. Even after a brutal 9-1 loss yesterday, Washington is slowly improving, winning four of their last six.
Though the pitching matchup isn’t the flashiest, Washington hopes former All-Star Michael Soroka can revert to his Spring Training form and find a way into a starting rotation that desperately needs depth.
Michael Soroka, now playing for this third team in three years, has not produced the same production since his 2019 All-Star selection. Soroka’s last start came in late March, where he gave up four runs in five innings, and has been sidelined ever since due to a bicep injury. However, his last rehab start proved encouraging, striking out eleven batters.
C.J. Abrams is off to a great start to the 2025 season and he leads off for this Nationals lineup. Keibert Ruiz is back in the lineup after a much deserved off day. The offense was disappointing yesterday but with a win today Washington could impress by winning against a competitive Cleveland squad.

Lefty Logan Allen has been a consistent starter for Cleveland the past three seasons and has produced well. Allen’s career ERA is 4.57. However, Allen has been struggling with command this season, walking fifteen batters and only having twenty-two strikeouts. In his last start, Allen pitched just over five innings, giving up two earned runs, and Cleveland was dealt the loss.
After a big win yesterday, Cleveland has some made some changes to the lineup. Kwan, Ramirez, Santana, and Arias find themselves in the same spot in the lineup as yesterday. However, young catcher Bo Naylor is back in the lineup and Nolan Jones and Angel Martinez have dropped since yesterday. Cleveland will hope with these changes their offense can keep momentum from yesterday.
