A Rogers Start Topped With Mayo

August 6, 2025 by Orioles Hangout

The Baltimore Orioles won the series finale against the Philadelphia Phillies (65-49) by a score of 5-1 Wednesday afternoon. The win started on the mound as the southpaw Trevor Rogers (5-2) orchestrated his sixth consecutive quality start and his eighth in ten starts this season. Rogers threw a season high 104 pitches (73 K’s), allowing a run on 8 hits while walking 2 and striking out 6. He held the Phillies power duo of Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper to a combined 1 for 6 and struck Schwarber out swinging twice. The Phillies touched him for their lone run in the fifth inning via a leadoff walk and two consecutive singles. Rogers escaped that inning with a Schwarber strikeout, a Harper forceout and a Nick Castellanos groundout.

In the sixth the Phillies had runners on first and second with two outs and Rogers was given the opportunity to get out of the inning. He did just that, inducing a groundout from Phillies catcher Rafael Marchan to finish off his start and in the end earn the win.

Mayo With A Weaver Special

In the fourth inning Baltimore had runners on second and third with one run in for Coby Mayo. Mayo deposited a 79.5 mph Ranger Suarez changeup 421 ft. to left field for a three-run homerun; he finished the day going 2 for 4.

The Bullpen Came Up Big

Deitrich Enns came into the game in relief of Rogers and allowed a hit while striking out 5 over 2.0 innings. Keegan Akin pitched the ninth and allowed a one-out walk that was negated by a game-ending Trea Turner 6-4-3 double play.
