Unlike Friday’s comeback that came up a run or two short, Saturday’s comeback by the Baltimore Orioles was a big success. Trailing the New York Yankees 3-2 after 5 innings, the Birds scored a pair of runs in both the 7th and 8th innings to win 6-3.
The start of the comeback occurred in the 7th inning with a Ramon Urias double, a Jorge Mateo (2 for 4, 2 runs scored, 1 RBI, 1 SB) RBI single and a Cedric Mullins (2 for 3, 1 run scored, 2 RBI, 1 SB) sacrifice fly that plated Mateo after he advanced on a throwing error on a pickoff attempt.
Urias (3 for 4, 1 2B, 1 HR, 2 runs scored, 2 RBI) blasted his 10th homerun, a two-run shot, in the 8th inning that allowed Rougned Odor (0 for 3, 1 run scored, 1 BB), who drew a two out walk, to score ahead of him. Urias is slashing .404/ .440/ .723/ 1.163 in 14 games since returning on 7/4 from a left oblique strain.
The double machine known as Adley Rutschman went 1 for 3 with his 17th double, 1 RBI and a walk. Rutschman is third in doubles among qualified rookies and in fact, is 2 doubles shy of the leader Bobby Witt, Jr in less than half as many at-bats (169 to 352, 48 games to 90).
Jordan Lyles started the game and allowed 3 runs on 8 hits with 1 homerun allowed, 2 walks and 2 strikeouts over 5.0 innings. He did not factor into the decision, reliever Cionel Perez (5-1) did. Perez pitched the 7th inning and allowed 1 hit and walked 1.
Jorge Lopez earned his 18th save of the season with a 1 hit, 1 walk ninth inning.
