A Sweep And Nine Games Under

July 8, 2025 by Orioles Hangout

Trevor Rogers (2-0) spun 6.2 scoreless innings against the Atlanta Braves (39-50) on Sunday. Brunch in Mr. Roger’s neighborhood was good, if not beautiful. His 4 hit, 2 walk, 6 strike out performance propelled the Baltimore Orioles to a 2-1 win over the Braves, giving the team a series sweep.

Rogers threw 88 pitches (60 strikes) in recording his second win of the season. After allowing a lead-off infield single to Jurickson Profar, he faced the minimum of 13 batters with the help of a fourth inning double play. The only real pressure Rogers faced came in the fifth inning when Atlanta had runners at first and second with two outs; a strikeout of Nick Allen ended the threat.

The key now will be to take this momentum into the series with the suddenly resurgent New York Mets which begins on Tuesday in Baltimore.

Jackson Holliday, who went 4 for 4 on the day, gave Baltimore all the offense it needed with his third inning two-run homerun to right-center. Fortunately that homerun gave the Orioles the cushion needed to win especially with the squandered opportunities in both the sixth and eighth innings. Baltimore had runners on first and second with no outs in the sixth and had the bases loaded with two outs in the eighth and failed to cash in each time.

Holliday provided the cushion needed to overcome the ninth inning solo homerun Seranthony Dominguez surrendered to Atlanta’s Sean Murphy.

The bulk of the Orioles’ bats were silent with the exception of Jacob Stallings and Ramon Laureano, who each recorded a hit in the contest. Additionally, Colton Cowser struck out 3 times with a walk.

The Orioles now sit at nine games under .500 and the time is NOW to keep the games under that mark in single digits, something they have been unable to do. As of this moment the Orioles are 7.0 games back in the Wild Card race.

BOX SCORE

2025 Record: 40-49
