Colton Cowser hit a three-run opposite field homerun with two out in the sixth inning to break a one-one tie with the Chicago White Sox (57-94). The homerun proved to be the winning margin as the Baltimore Orioles defeated the Pale Hose 4-1 on Monday evening at Chicago’s Rate Field.
Cowser hit his second homerun in as many days after Coby Mayo worked a two-out walk and Samuel Basallo singled and in the end made starter Kyle Bradish (1-1) the winning pitcher.
Bradish gave the Orioles an 88 pitch (55 K’s) effort over 5.0 innings in which he allowed a lone run on 4 hits with 4 walks and 9 strikeouts. Chicago used a pair of singles after a first inning walk to score that run. Bradish did bend in each of the next four innings, allowing at least one baserunner in every inning, but did not break as he worked his way out every time. The defense helped as well by turning double plays in the second and fourth innings.
The bullpen stepped up on Monday in relief of Bradish. Kade Strowd struck out two in a clean sixth inning and Dietrich Enns pitched the final three innings and earned his second save of the season.
Enns struck out four of the nine batters he faced and really didn’t seem to break a sweat as he cruised through the White Sox lineup.
Baltimore’s first run scored on a Jeremiah Jackson two-out RBI-single following walks by Basallo and Jackson Holliday in the third inning.
Holliday went 2 for 4 with a double and a walk.
