The Bowie Baysox clinched their first road series win of the season against the Binghamton Rumble Ponies. The series saw the AA affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles go on a four-game winning streak, only losing the first and the last of the six-game series against the Mets AA affiliate. This was their highest winning streak of the 2024 season so far.
Bowie’s offense was powered by their usual sluggers. A shutout in game one did not stop the Baysox right fielder, Dylan Beavers, from going 3-4. Game two saw more of a spark from Bowie’s offense, with Collin Burns being the top performer going 2-3 with a home run and a walk. The offense kept producing in game three, as Frederick Bencosme and Dylan Beavers hit back-to-back home runs, leading the Baysox to a 3-0 victory. Beavers continued to work in game four, going 2-4 with his fifth home run of the season. Burns and Ardoin lead the Baysox to their final win of the series in game five, with Burns going 2-3 with 2 RBIs, and Ardoin going 3-3 with one RBI. The Baysox fell to the Rumble Ponies in game 6, but Dylan Beavers still went 3-5 with a home run.
On the other side of the grid, pitching for the Baysox also exceeded expectations. Ryan Long got the ball first in the series for Bowie, and though the offense did not back him in game one, he still stood his ground by only giving up one hit and one earned run. Games two and three of the series were back-to-back shutouts for the Baysox. Trace Bright went for four and one-third scoreless innings on Wednesday, while Brandon Young pitched a season-high seven strikeouts for Bowie on Thursday. Seth Johnson and Carlos Tavera combined for the game-four win, with only one earned run being recorded on the night. Alex Pham recorded a season-high of seven batters to start game five. Pham has only allowed three earned runs for the Baysox in May and is currently sporting a 1.88 ERA since April. Game 6 was the unfortunate final loss for the Baysox, but bullpen right-hander Cameron Weston tried to salvage the deficit by pitching 4 scoreless innings with five strikeouts.
After a successful road series, the Baysox are back home on May 21 to begin a six-game series against the Richmond Flying Squirrels, AA affiliate of the San Francisco Giants.
