Longtime Orioles centerfielder Adam Jones is rejoining the organization as special adviser to executive vice president/general manager Mike Elias and community ambassador, the team announced on Monday.
The Orioles say that Jones, who was a five-time All-Star and four-time Gold Glove winner, will advise Elias “on various matters and serve as a resource for the rest of the Baseball Operations department and Orioles major and minor league players.”
Jones, who is among the Orioles all-time leaders in many offensive categories, played with the team from 2008-2018, and was also known for his involvement in community affairs. He’ll begin his new role when he joins the team in spring training as a guest coach.
Jones was voted Most Valuable Oriole three times.
“I am grateful for the Orioles relationships I have formed since my retirement, which have led us to this exciting partnership. Having the opportunity to be around the game that I love, while also learning the operations side of baseball from one of the best General Managers is truly an honor. I am happy to be a resource for the Orioles organization and will offer everything I’ve learned from past experience to help the team succeed,” Jones said in a statement.
