Anne Arundel County high school athletes of the week (Jan. 19-25)

Each week, The Capital Gazette will list the top performances from Anne Arundel County high schools. We are also opening a public poll in which readers can cast their vote for who they think the county Athlete of the Week should be. Readers can vote once per hour through Sunday evening.

Last week’s results

South River girls basketball’s Kiera West claimed the title of Athlete of the Week for Jan. 12-18 with 23.1% of the vote. Glen Burnie girls basketball’s Stephanie Ohl and South River wrestling’s Jackson Peeples tied for second (16.8%). Severn wrestling’s Luke Layden finished fourth with 14.7% of the vote.

This week’s top 10

Bryson Bradley, Northeast, boys basketball

The senior unloaded 37 points to lift the Eagles over Severn Run on Friday, 73-60. He also collected three steals in the game.

Moe Lonergan, Spalding, boys basketball

The senior shooting guard totaled 62 points across three games, highlighted by a 30-point performance against Boys’ Latin on Jan. 21.

Nkechi Streete, Broadneck, indoor track

The Bruins’ sophomore shattered two county records at the Anne Arundel county championships in the girls long jump (17-3.5) and triple jump (37-11). She also took silver in the girls high jump (5-feet) and as part of the 4×200 relay, allover leading Broadneck to the girls team title.

Somaya Davis, AACS, girls basketball

The freshman combo guard dropped 19 points on Sts. Peter and Paul on Thursday and 29 points on Concordia Prep on Saturday, including six 3-pointers.

Makayla Kropfelder, Broadneck, girls basketball

The senior center totaled 21 points, 24 rebounds and seven blocks against two top county teams, South River and Chesapeake, on Tuesday and Friday, respectfully.

Kate DiPietro, Southern, indoor track

The sophomore claimed the girls 500 meters (1:19.29) individually and powered the Bulldogs to a record-breaking time of 4:08.64 in the 4×400 relay at the county championships.

Camille Smythe, Meade, cheerleading

The four-year varsity cheerleader acted as an unofficial captain and leader to steer the Mustangs to the county title on Thursday with 118.55 points.

Cole Cosgrove, North County, indoor track

The senior came from behind to claim first place in the boys 1,600-meter run(4:26.05) at the county championships.

Josie Kamas, Severna Park, indoor track

The junior held a wire-to-wire lead to claim the girls 1,600 in 5, minutes, 8.54 seconds at the county championships.

Logan Johnson, Old Mill, wrestling

The Patriot was impressive in a dual against Crofton, pinning his opponent at 120 pounds in 1 minute, 2 seconds.
