Armstrong Williams: NYC subway murder must be treated like the heinous crime it is | STAFF COMMENTARY

A deranged maniac lit a woman on fire on a New York City subway while the woman was sleeping. A shocking video shows the woman standing still as she slowly succumbs to her injuries while she and the subway car burn.

It’s disgusting, it’s tragic, and it’s exactly why people in big liberal cities like New York City don’t feel safe simply going about their normal day. Whether it’s being shot and killed for no apparent reason on the side of the street, or being pushed onto the subway tracks, or being lit on fire while you’re sleeping, New Yorkers have to face the frightening reality that they may be next every single day.

But here’s another issue. They caught this man thanks in big part to New York City’s investment in security cameras in subways, but will they give him a big perp walk like they did to the UnitedHealthcare CEO killer? Will New York City Mayor Eric Adams and countless police officers walk alongside him as a show of force that you can’t commit those types of heinous acts in New York City?

I doubt it. And do you want to know why? It’s because this scenario sends two messages. Not only should New Yorkers feel unsafe going about their daily lives, but they should also know that, to the government, it’s okay to kill an average, everyday, ordinary New Yorker — but don’t you dare kill a CEO or someone else with power. They’ll give you the death penalty if you do that.

They’ll plaster your face on TV. The mayor and many police officers will walk alongside you as they walk you to jail. But this man? Because he didn’t kill anybody important enough, apparently, they’ll catch him, throw him in prison, and that’ll be it.

A tragedy.
