A Baltimore City Fire Department vehicle was stolen Sunday night in the vicinity of the Arthur “Smoke Stack” Hardy Fire Station in West Baltimore.
Police were called around 9:15 p.m. to the 400 block of McMechen Street in the Druid Heights neighborhood for a report of a stolen departmental fire vehicle, police said.
The vehicle was recovered a short time later — about 2 miles away — in the 100 block of West Lombard Street, police said.
A suspect was taken into custody without incident, a city fire department spokesman said in an email to The Baltimore Sun.
Dwayne L. Brown, 53, was charged with unlawfully taking a motor vehicle as well as theft of $1,500-$25,000. He is being held without bond pending a hearing on Tuesday, officials said.
There were no reports of damage to the fire department vehicle.
