Brunch In The Bronx Left A Bad Taste

June 24, 2025 by Orioles Hangout

The 11:30 am start time on Sunday, for Roku TV, didn’t seem to affect the Baltimore Orioles. The team immediately jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opening frame; the lead could have been greater had Jackson Holliday not been picked off second base when he lost contact with the base while the tag was applied. Ryan O’Hearn singled in Ramon Urias and Colton Cowser doubled, allowing Gunnar Henderson to come in. Henderson walked prior to O’Hearn’s at bat so one has to wonder what might have been with Holliday on second; runners at first and second became just a runner at first.

In the end, the New York Yankees (45-32) held the Orioles scoreless the rest of the way and recorded a 4-2 win, taking the series 2 games to 1.

Sunday’s starter, Dean Kremer, held the Yankees in check by allowing just 1 run on 5 hits with a walk and 7 strikeouts over 5.2 innings. He left with two on and two out for Keegan Akin, who recorded the final out of the inning. Gregory Soto pitched the seventh.

Bryan Baker (3-2) came in for the eighth inning and uncharacteristically struggled, allowing 3 runs, 2 earned, on 3 hits and walking 1. Baker became the pitcher of record when Urias grounded out to end the game, stranding Holliday at second.

New York’s Jazz Chisholm Jr was at the center of all the Yankees’ scoring. In the second inning he scored on a DJ LeMahieu single. The throw home from Cowser drew Maverick Handley up the third base line, causing a collision with that ultimately knocked Handley out of the game. Chisholm doubled in two runs in the eighth with Paul Goldschmidt scoring the second run when Henderson’s relay throw went to the firstbase side of home plate causing Gary Sanchez to be late with the tag. The fourth and final New York run was scored by Chisholm when Henderson’s throw home on a fielder’s choice was no caught by Sanchez.

I imagine it is safe to say that a Jazz brunch was not what the Orioles ordered on Sunday.
