A Canton gym has fully reopened Wednesday after a May storm damaged the facility, including partially tearing off the roof.
That storm brought an EF-1 tornado with maximum wind speeds of 110 mph to the Baltimore area, touching down in Federal Hill and moving 5.75 miles before lifting in Dundalk. Besides Merritt Club’s roof, other businesses and commercial structures reported damage.
No one was injured during the storm.
“The storm damage is behind us: repairs are complete, facilities restored, and we’ve received full approval to reopen the entire club—including the area previously affected. The club is now open, and all group fitness classes will resume in the studios tomorrow, July 3,” the club wrote in a statement to members.
Though the club has been partially open since mid-June, the area affected by the storm reopened Wednesday, according to Merritt Clubs spokesperson Donyel Cerceo.
The gym thanked city officials, the Merritt Construction Services workers, staff and members in its statement.
“Your outpouring of encouragement, kindness, and positivity gave us strength. Thank you for your patience, loyalty, and trust throughout this journey. We can’t wait to usher in a vibrant summer together—here’s to a joyful and healthy Fourth of July!” the statement reads.
