I request that they stop losing
First things first: this game is being broadcast on Apple TV+. If you don’t have that, you’re out luck for television viewing. I have a lot of feelings about having to find baseball on a bunch of different streaming apps when many of us already pay big bucks for MASN or MLB.tv. I also have thoughts about how there are way too many streaming options overall. But honestly, if I were going to recommend a streamer, it would probably be Apple TV+. Ask me in the comments about my favorite shows!
If you do have Apple TV+, there is a way to sync up the audio with the local radio broadcast. It’s much better than listening to their broadcasters, in my opinion. You can find instructions for that here.
The Orioles are not doing so hot right now. After getting our hopes up with some competent play over the last month, they have lost their last two series. Before that they played the Rays, the same team they are facing tonight. They split that four-game series.
Hitting has been kind of bad. The pitching has also been kind of bad. Such is life as a fan of the 2025 Orioles.
Tomoyuki Sugano is pitching for the Orioles tonight. Sugano completed seven strong innings on June 3rd but in three starts since then has failed to complete five. In his last start, against the Yankees, Sugano was pulled after just 3.2 innings. His regular day to pitch would have been Wednesday against the Rangers, but the Orioles called up Brandon Young to make the start. The result is two extra days of rest for Sugano, so hopefully he will be back to the form we had gotten used to before he hit the dog days of June.
Ryan Pepiot is scheduled to start for the Rays. He faced the Orioles just two starts ago and it was not pretty for our Birds. Pepiot allowed just one run in eight innings and struck out 11. He has a 3.04 ERA for the season. It’ll be a test for the offensively-challenged Orioles, but perhaps seeing Pepiot for the second time in less than two weeks will give them an edge.
The lineup is as solid as it can be these days, except for the possible omission of Ramón Urías for Coby Mayo. But Urías has cooled off, batting just .176 over his last 10 games. And Mayo hasn’t totally turned things around, but he has looked to be on more solid footing of late.
