A Harford County Detention Center inmate died Saturday following multiple hospital visits related to cardiac issues, according to a news release from the Harford County Sheriff’s Office.
George Kenney, 69, was serving an 18-month sentence related to a driving while impaired charge originating Aug. 11, authorities said.
“Our Correctional Deputies and contracted medica staff acted quickly and professional during multiple medical emergencies at the demeton center, doing they could,” Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler said in the release. “Mr. Kenney’s medical condition was not survivable.”
The Harford County death is at least the fourth reported inmate death in Maryland custody this month, including three at state prisons.
At North Branch Correctional Institution in Cumberland, Jordan Polston, 32, was found unresponsive in a cell and pronounced dead Dec. 23. Another inmate has been identified as a suspect, with the cause and manner of death pending an autopsy.
Wenhui Sun, 36, died Dec. 16 at the Maryland Correctional Training Center in Hagerstown after what investigators believe was an altercation involving three inmates, according to Maryland State Police.
At Jessup Correctional Institution, Deon Sheridan Smith Jr., 23, was found unresponsive and died under suspicious circumstances Dec. 13. State police said a suspect, also an inmate, had been identified.
