High school sports roundup (April 2)

Here’s a roundup of high school varsity action on Wednesday, April 2.

Softball

Perry Hall 6, Catonsville 5: The Gators held off the Comets’ rally thanks to pitcher S Carl, who struck out 11 in a four-hitter. Addie Dunlap went 4-for-4 with three RBIs to lead the offense. S Lopez added two hits and an RBI. Catonsville got three RBIs from Kaia Gross.

Boys lacrosse

Towson 12, Perry Hall 0: Jackson Harris made three saves and Justin Villano had two saves and the visiting Generals shut out the Gators. Towson was led by Max Kosmides (4 goals) and Alex Tyler (3 goals, 1 assist). Tyler recorded his 100th career point and his total stands at 102.

Coed tennis

Fallston 6, Bel Air 5: The decisive point for the Cougars came in the third girls singles match, where Lexi Rapo won in a tiebreaker, 5-7, 6-4, 10-3. Fallston swept girls singles with Juliana Kovalets and Gwen Karantonis taking the top two matches. Gordon Lefkowitz and Edison Liu won at first and third boys singles, respectively. Fallston also got a win at first boys doubles from Zach Boczar and Luca Cangelosi.

Boys tennis

Manchester Valley 3, Francis Scott Key 2: The Mavericks’ Gabe Markowitz won a nail-biter at first singles, 6-3, 4-6, 10-8, to give his team the match win. Manchester Valley also got doubles wins from the teams of Brandon Nigalan and London Ruhlman, and Matt Jule and Noah Markowitz. FSK got a singles win from Jon Adock and a doubles win from Nathan Myers and Evan Myers.

Liberty 4, South Carroll 1: Arjun Mistry and Louis Major each posted 6-0, 6-0 wins for the Lions in singles play. Chase King and Jayden Venable, and Cameron Scobie and Marus Kim earned doubles wins. The top doubles team of Michael Mooney and Joel Lee won for South Carroll.

Girls tennis

Liberty 4, South Carroll 1: Danielle Ponomarev swept first singles, 6-0, 6-0 and Abby Zentner added a 6-2, 6-3 win. Liberty also took the first doubles match courtesy of Payton Oakley and Amelia Mustico. Aubrey Anderson and Lilli Kashima won third doubles. South Carroll’s win came from Brooklyn Weitzel and Irya Kovalenko at second doubles.
