High school sports roundup (Dec. 27)

Here’s a roundup of high school varsity action on Friday, Dec. 27.

Boys basketball

Dulaney 59, McDonough 56: The Lions had three players score in double figures as they moved to 7-0. Kelan Dennis totaled 18 points, five rebounds and three blocks. Chase Huber added 15 points, six assists and four rebounds. Drew Ranck chipped in 14 points, seven rebounds and four blocks.

Aberdeen 67, Carver A&T 18: Isaiah Gainey led the Eagles with 10 points and four steals. Cam Allen-Jones, McKinley Turner, Dale Harris IV and Carleto Dunson added eight points each.

Mt. Hebron 50, KIPP (DC) 38: The Vikings outscored KIPP 46-17 the final three quarters in a come from behind win. Cole Willey led the way with 18 points while Ezra Yauger added 11 off the bench.

Broadneck 68, Oakland Mills 50: The Bruins beat the Scorpions at the Beach Slam tournament in Lewes, Delaware. Drew Cahall led the win with 18 points. Liam Sabo backed him with 13 points, while Ashton Sellman and Joey Smargissi each finished with 10.

Southern 69, Watkins Mill 49: At the Severna Park Winter Jam, the Bulldogs were led by Daniel Lewis with 17 points. Anthony Thomas chipped in 15 and Bryson Mims chipped in 10.

Glen Burnie 59, Joppatowne 56: Jordan Dailey led all scorers with 17 points to help the Gophers (4-1) to the win. Tournament MVP Chris Maddox added 11 points while Braedon Buchanan scored 13 points. For the Mariners, Dartanun Blakney had 16 points. Braxton Jacksoon had 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Northeast 61, Towson 57: The Eagles (5-3) downed the Generals on the second day of the Overlea Holiday Mixer thanks to 16 points from Titus Simeona. Bryson Bradley contributed 13 points and three steals while Torin Roberts fired 10 points and six rebounds. Bub Townsend tallied a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards.

Long Reach 61, Chesapeake-AA 47: Daniel Best scored 27 points to lead Lightning in the win. Both Xavier Weston (13 points) and Jay’Qwan Colvin (10) finished in double figures.

Girls basketball

Francis Scott Key 53, St. John’s 42: The Eagles held a two-point halftime lead, but built some separation in the second half. Summer Brooks led the win with 21 points. Kensi Bancroft backed her with nine points, while McKenna Lanza and Jayla Watson each chipped in eight.

Manchester Valley 71, Benjamin Franklin 8: Four Mavericks scored in double figures in a balanced offensive effort. Brynn Bauer led with 12 points. Abigail Schindler, Cara Staiger and Taylor Fique each scored 10. Haylee Bittinger and Ariana Leach each chipped in nine.

Fallston 50, Liberty 37: The Cougars were led by Senior Guard Jadin Woods with 11 points followed by senior forward Natalie Wirth and Sarah Gent, who both had 10 points. Sarah Gnagey chipped in eight points and Maura Lawall added six points.

Pikesville 40, St. Anthony’s (NY) 32: The Panthers won at the Diamond State Classic in Wilmington, Delaware. Mariah Jones-Bey led the way with 17 points. Maya Chase added 11 points in the win.

Severna Park 44, Indian Creek 39: Erin Hussey led the Falcons (4-3) to triumph with 15 points, six rebounds and four steals, followed by 10 points from Charley Coward.

Chesapeake 47, Bryn Mawr 44: The unbeaten Cougars (6-0) edged past the Mawrtians in the first round of the 695 Hoops All About the Girls Holiday Tournament, spurred by Kiery Matkins, who had 18 points and six rebounds. Kendall Kotofski made 11 points and five rebounds while Ella Cieri had seven points and four assists.

Oakdale 44, Glenelg 24: Emmy Dello Russo scored 11 points for Glenelg.

River Hill 55, Winters Mill 35: Becca Egana scored a season-high 16 points to lead River Hill in the win, while Dylan Watson added 13.
