Girls basketball
Broadneck 70, Friends 21: The Bruins ran away with the opening night win thanks in part to a 23-0 second-quarter run. Macie McNece led the win with 20 points and six steals. London BEst backed her with eight points and six steals, while Jillian Gross finished with nine points and seven rebounds. Summer Stroop added eight points.
North Harford 41, Elkton 33: Emily Signor and Peyton Dawson each posted double-doubles for the Hawks in their season-opening win. Each tallied 12 points with Signor grabbing 12 rebounds and Dawson pulling down 11. Cammie Appleby chipped in eight points.
Edgewood 57, Kenwood 19: Chris Lang (20 points) and Jael Erickson (18 points) led the Rams (1-0) over the Bluebirds (0-1). Erickson also had six steals and five assists, while Lang grabbed three steals. Lilly Smeltzer was tops on the glass with six rebounds. Arianna Sisk had grabbed four.
River Hill 68, Marriotts Ridge 32: River Hill opened up a 17-9 lead after one quarter and pushed it to 33-15 at halftime. Dylan Watson led the win with 19 points. Marriotts Ridge was led by Kaite Leader with eight points and Peyton Albert with six points.
Reservoir 48, Centennial 31: The Gators (1-0) won the season opener as Alissa Young led the way with 18 points. Jasmin Shelton had 10 points, while Sam Feher added nine.
Glenelg 45, Long Reach 29: The Gladiators (1-0) went on the road and earned a season-opening win. For Long Reach, Jaiden Bryant had 10 points and nine rebounds.
Carver A&T 33, Loch Raven 32: The host Wildcats (1-0) beat the Raiders (0-1) in the season opener.
Boys basketball
Curley 63, Towson 40: In the opening loss, the Generals got 13 points and five steals from Jeremiah Harris. Devaughn West added eight points.
Liberty 77, Catoctin 28: The Lions rolled to a big win to open the season behind three double-figure scorers. Jayden Zumbrun led everyone with 20 points. Noah Gitau and Tristan West each added 13 points.
Patterson Mill 70, North Harford 61: The Huskies broke open a one-point game at halftime to win by nine. James Hammond led the win with 18 points with Kai Gibson right behind him with 17. Colin Luddy chipped in 13. North Harford’s Jason Brady led all scorers with 23 points.
Harford Tech 68, Aberdeen 59: For the Eagles in the loss, Kellen Dennis led with 15 points, 11 coming in the fourth quarter. He also totaled five rebounds, four steals and three assists. Collin Rogers finished with 11 points and six steals.
Dulaney 79, Loch Raven 75: The visiting Lions (1-0) beat the Raiders (0-1) in the season opener.
Wrestling
Century goes 1-1: Century split a season-opening tri-meet, defeating Catoctin, 41-26, but losing to Tuscarora, 53-27. Eli Stein, Chris Brooks, Dylan Vroom and Cameron Wagner each went 2-0 for the Knights.
Franklin sweeps tri-meet: The Indians got past a pair of county opponents in a season opening tri-meet. They beat Dulaney, 46-30 and Pikesville, 60-18. Joe Silberman, Dakota Warfield, Josh Gray, Jacob Jones, Chilotam Ezeani, Jaidon Williams and Dylan Hurd all went 2-0.
Dundalk goes 2-0: The Owls dominated two county opponents in a tri-meet, beating Loch Raven, 66-10, and Carver A&T, 57-24. Brandon Brown won both his matches by pin, Clayton Fraser had a pin and a technical fall, Carlos Llorens earned a pin, Gavin Dosch picked up a tech fall and Richard Vargas won two major decisions.
