The Baltimore Orioles defeated the New York Yankees (86-68) by a score of 4-2 in front of an announced crowd of 26,269 fans Friday night at Camden Yards. The win evens the home series at a game apiece and keeps a .500 season in play.
The win doesn’t happen without another quality start from Trevor Rogers (9-2); including tonight, that is his 13th quality among 17 total starts. Rogers held the Yankees to one hit and two walks, while striking out seven and hitting a batter over 6.0 innings to earn his ninth win of ’25. He threw 106 pitches (68 K’s) and no-hit the Yankees for 5.0 innings. His lone hit allowed came on an Austin Wells single to open the sixth inning.
Dylan Beavers made two highlight reel catches in support of Rogers after the Wells’ single. Beavers robbed Paul Goldschmidt of at the very least an extra-base hit at the left field wall and made a diving snow cone catch of an Aaron Judge line drive to short left field.
Interim Manager Tony Mansolino called the Beaver’s catches “game-saving plays” and Rogers said this of them, “Shoot, I owe him something, that’s for sure. Those plays were unbelievable.”
Dietrich Enns was the only Orioles reliever to suffer a hiccup, allowing a two-run homerun to Jazz Chisholm in the seventh inning.
Rico Garcia pitched a scoreless eighth while Keegan Akin struck out 2 in the ninth to record his 8th save of the year.
The Baltimore offense was paced by Ryan Mountcastle (1 for 3, 1 run scored, 2 RBI) who hit a solo homerun to lead off the second inning and added a RBI sacrifice fly in the sixth.
Samuel Basallo‘s bases loaded groundout with one out in the sixth inning also knocked in a run.
Gunnar Henderson went 2 for 3 with a run scored, 1 RBI and a walk. He hit his 100th career double in the seventh inning, a RBI double that scored Jordan Westburg from first base.
The Orioles won the game despite going 0 for 4 with runners in scoring position.
