BALTIMORE—Second baseman Jackson Holliday is out of the Orioles’ lineup for the second straight game. Holliday had an MRI on his knee. Interim manager Tony Mansolino said he didn’t know which one.
“I’m hopeful he’s in there tomorrow,” Mansolino said. “We’ll see what it looks like the next couple of days.”
Holliday told Mansolino the knee felt better.
Catcher/first baseman Samuel Basallo, who was hit on the right wrist in the ninth inning of Wednesday night’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays, isn’t in the lineup but could play.
“If this was a must-win, I could see him probably playing today,” Mansolino said.
Basallo was hit by Tampa Bay’s Pete Fairbanks.
“I tried to react, but I didn’t have enough time to do so,” Basallo said through a team translator. “Hand’s feeling much better. Couldn’t really feel it yesterday. Thankfully, today I’m feeling better.”
Basallo thinks he’ll be able to play this weekend.
“I think it’s going to be something day-to-day for now,” Basallo said. “Hopefully, I’ll be ready to go tomorrow.”
The Orioles close out their home schedule with a Thursday afternoon game against the Rays. They’ll finish the season in New York with a three-game series against the Yankees.
Notes: Relief pitcher Albert Suárez will have an MRI on his right elbow and see Dr. Keith Meister in Dallas on October 7th. … Trevor Rogers, Tomoyuki Sugano and Kyle Bradish are the Orioles’ scheduled starters at Yankee Stadium this weekend. Saturday’s game starts at 1:05 p.m. Sunday’s begins at 3:05 p.m.
