Orioles invite 26 non-roster players to camp, including Basallo, Bradfield

February 7, 2025 by Baltimore Baseball

The Orioles are inviting 26 non-roster players to major league spring training, including top prospects catcher Samuel Basallo and outfielders Enrique Bradfield Jr., Dylan Beavers and Jud Fabian.

Those with major league experience include: right-handed pitchers Matt Bowman, who appeared in 15 games for the Orioles last season; Corbin Martin, who pitched for Triple-A Norfolk last season after 17 games with Houston and Arizona in three seasons; Levi Stoudt, who appeared in three games for Cincinnati in 2023; Thaddeus Ward, who was claimed off waivers from Washington last November; catcher David Bañuelos, who had one at-bat last season; infielders Nick Gordon, Vimael Machin, Liván Soto and Terrin Vavra; and outfielders Jordyn Adams and Franklin Barreto.

Other pitchers invited include: left-handers Raúl Alcantara and Jakob Hernández, and right-handers Justin Armbruester, Yaramil Hiraldo, Robinson Martinez, Rodolfo Martinez, Carlos Tavera and Nathan Webb.

Alcantara was signed from Seattle. Hernández had a 1.17 ERA in 12 games for High-A Aberdeen and Double-A Bowie. Armbruester, who was in camp last season, was 5-11 with a 7.54 ERA for Triple-A Norfolk. Hiraldo pitched in the Mexican League last season. Robinson Martínez hasn’t pitched in organized ball since 2022 when he was with the Miami organization. Rodolfo Martínez was signed out of the Mexican League.

Tavera was the Orioles’ fifth-round draft pick in 2021, and Webb, who was also in camp last season, hasn’t pitched since 2022 after Tommy John surgery.

All four catchers — Basallo, one of baseball’s top prospects, Bañuelos, Silas Ardoin and Maverick Handley — were in camp last season.

Four of the five infielders invited have major league experience. Soto played 13 games for the Orioles last season. Vavra, who played with the Orioles in 2022 and 2023, was re-signed on Wednesday. Gordon, the fifth overall pick in 2014, has four seasons of major league time with Minnesota and Miami. Machin, who most recently played in Mexico, was with the Athletics from 2020-2022. The Orioles also invited Jeremiah Jackson, who was most recently in the Mets organization.

Bradfield was the Orioles’ top draft choice in 2023. Beavers was the 33rd overall pick in 2022. Fabian was a second-round selection in 2021.

Adams played 28 games for the Angels in 2023 and 2024. Barreto played 101 games with the Angels and Athletics from 2017-2020. He most recently played in Mexico.
