The Baysox were the only winners Tuesday as the Tides, IronBirds and Shorebirds all lost one-run games.

Triple-A: Omaha Storm Chasers (Royals) 9, Norfolk Tides 8

The Tides stormed out to an early 8-3 lead but couldn’t hold off the Storm Chasers, as Omaha scored two runs in the 8th to complete the comeback. Norfolk got out to that lead thanks to a pair of big innings. Down 2-0 in the top of the 3rd, Maverick Handley started the first rally with a leadoff single. Jordyn Adams then put the Tides on the board with a double to center that allowed Handley to score all the way from first.

Back-to-back singles from Dylan Beavers and Dylan Carlson drove home Adams and tied the game at 2-2. Two batters later, Vimael Machín doubled into right field to give the Tides two runners in scoring position. Emmanuel Rivera then capped off the rally with a two-run single that put Norfolk up 4-2.

Omaha got a run back in the bottom of the 4th, but the Tides responded with another four-spot in the 5th. Beavers led off the inning with a double, Carlson walked and the two Dylans then moved up on a wild pitch. With runners on second and third, Machín singled home Beavers before Rivera hit a sac fly to give the Tides a 6-3 lead. Jud Fabian then walked, allowing Terrin Vavra to put Norfolk’s final two runs on the board with a triple into left.

The Tides’ bullpen couldn’t hold that lead though, as relievers Carlos Tavera, Roansy Contreras and Corbin Martin each allowed two runs to hand the game back to Omaha. Martin entered in the bottom of the 8th, trying to protect an 8-7 lead. Martin gave up singles to three of the first four batters he faced as the Storm Chasers tied the game at eight. The Norfolk reliever then left a first-pitch slider over the plate to Joey Wiemer, who hit a sharp ground ball to short to score the winning run.

Box Score

Double-A: Chesapeake Baysox 4, Richmond Fly Squirrels (Giants) 1

Ryan Long pitched five shutout innings and Douglas Hodo III launched a two-run homer as the Baysox cruised to an easy win over the Flying Squirrels. After setting his Double-A career high in Ks during his fist start, Long matched his career high by throwing five scoreless frames against Richmond. The former 17th-round pick from the 2021 draft only allowed three base runners on three singles and only allowed multiple base runners in the bottom of the 1st.

After a slow start, Hodo got Chesapeake’s offense on the board in the top of the 4th. Creed Willems led off the inning with a single but was quickly erased when Silas Ardoin grounded into a 6-4-3 double play. Max Wagner then kickstarted a two-out rally by singling up the middle, then stealing second and advancing to third on a throwing error. Hodo made it so Wagner could jog the last 90 feet home by launching a two-run homer to left center.

Willems provided the insurance runs in the top of the 5th thanks to a Richmond defensive miscue. Noelberth Romero reached on a one out single and then moved to second on a Travis Josenberger walk. Jeremiah Jackson then loaded the bases on a single to give the No. 3 hitter Willems the chance to break it open. The power-hitting 1B instead grounded into would be inning-ending double play, only for Richmond’s SS to air mail the first baseman and allow two to score.

Levi Wells, the O’s 4th-round pick from the 2023 draft, pitched the last four innings to earn the save. Wells allowed Richmond’s only run on a two-out double in the 9th, before getting a flyout to center to end the game.

Box Score

High-A: Brooklyn Cyclones (Mets) 8, Aberdeen IronBirds 7

The Cyclones raced out to a 7-0 lead and the IronBirds bats ran out of time as the fell to Brooklyn. After giving a two-run homer in the top of the 2nd, the wheels really fell off for Aberdeen starter Trey Gibson in the top of the 3rd. Gibson walked the first batter of the inning and then gave up a one-out double that drove home Brooklyn’s third run.

The 22-year-old out of Liberty struck out Eli Serrano III, but saw him reach base on a passed ball. The Cyclones then strung together a single and a sac fly to scratch across two more runs, before Chris Suero delivered the knockout blow with a two-run homer.

Trailing 7-0, Anderson De Los Santos got the IronBirds on the board with a triple that turned into Aberdeen’s first run on an Aron Estrada RBI single. The IronBirds and Cyclones trade runs over the next three half innings and after four innings, Aberdeen trailed 8-2.

They’d claw back two runs in the 6th thanks to a little bit of small ball. Ethan Anderson, Jake Cunningham and Leandro Arias started the inning with three consecutive singles, cutting the lead to 8-3. Cunningham then stole third and scored on Ryan Stafford sac fly.

Trailing by four in the bottom of the 9th, the Cyclones tried to give the IronBirds a way back into the game. Aron Estrada reached on a one out single and then moved to second on a wild pitch. Griff O’Ferrall then reached on an error before both runners advanced on another wild pitch. Vance Honeycutt walked to load the bases, before Aberdeen scored two runs on the third and fourth wild pitches of the inning. Cunningham hit a sac fly to make things 8-7, but Arias grounded out to end the game with the tying run on third.

Box Score

Low-A: Carolina Mudcats (Brewers) 11, Delmarva Shorebirds 10

In a high-scoring affair down in Zebulon, NC, the Shorebirds tied the game at 10 in the top of the 8th, only to give up the winning run in the bottom of the inning.

The Shorebirds gave up eight runs across the first two innings, but clawed their way back into the game thanks to a barrage of singles and great offensive consistency. Delmarva scored exactly two runs in each of the first round innings of the game to tie the 8-8 in the top of the 4th.

Carolina took a 9-8 lead in the bottom of the 4th thanks to a lead-off single, a steal of second, a throwing error and a wild pitch. The Mudcats would then tack on another run in the 6th thanks to a lead-off home run by Josh Adamczewski. That set the stage for Delmarva’s comeback in the 8th. Down 10-8 with two outs, Kevin Guerrero and Yasmil Bucce walked to load the bases. Maikol Hernández then launched Delmarva’s second double of the game to tie the game at 10-10.

That lead wouldn’t hold, though, as Grabiel Salazar walked the first two batters he faced in the bottom of the 8th to put the winning run in scoring position. With one out, Filippo Di Turi singled to center to drive home the winning run.
