Standout performances were had up and down the Orioles’ farm system, including a dominating Double-A debut for Cameron Weston among others.
Triple-A: Norfolk Tides 7, Nashville Sounds (Brewers) 3
Cade Povich tossed yet another gem as the Tides won their fifth straight game. The left-handed starter went six innings, allowing just one run on five hits, four walks, and five strikeouts. His season ERA actually went up slightly, to 1.11, after this effort. Nick Vespi had a tough time in relief, giving up a pair of runs on two hits, two walks, and two strikeouts over two innings. Matt Krook fared better, tossing a scoreless ninth to wrap up the win.
Norfolk’s offense was held to just one run through the first five innings. But once the Nashville starter, Aaron Ashby, was out of the game, they went to work on the bullpen. Kyle Stowers and Coby Mayo both hit solo home runs. Mayo and Maverick Handley both had multi-hit days. Stowers also walked twice and scored a pair. Hudson Haskin swiped two bases while Errol Robinson and Handley stole one each. Jackson Holliday was 0-for-4 with a walk, an RBI, and a strikeout. Connor Norby went 0-for-4 with two K’s and an RBI sac fly.

Double-A: Bowie Baysox 6, Erie SeaWolves (Tigers) 4
It was a mixed bag on the mound for the Bowie pitching staff. Ryan Long had a rough outing as he gave up four runs on two hits, including a home run, three walks, and two strikeouts over 4.1 innings. But then after Ryan Hennen retired the final two outs of the fifth inning, Cameron Weston came on and looked terrific. Over the final four innings he gave up just two hits but no runs or walks to go along with eight strikeouts in his Double-A debut. Weston, an eighth-round pick in 2022, could be a name to watch moving forward.

Jud Fabian and Dylan Beavers both went deep in the win. Fabian’s was a solo shot while Beavers had one runner aboard prior to his blast. Collin Burns was the lone Bowie hitter with multiple hits; he went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Frederick Bencosme had two walks and a stolen base.

High-A: Aberdeen IronBirds 6, Brooklyn Cyclones (Mets) 2
Carter Baumler threw 43 pitches in his 2.2-inning outing, the most pitches he has had in any appearance this season. It was a solid showing as he allowed just a solo home run and struck out three. Juan De Los Santos was next on the mound. He gave up a run on three hits, a walk, and two strikeouts over 1.1 innings. The rest of the relievers locked down the Brooklyn offense from there. Luis Sánchez, Dominic Freeberger, and Graham Firoved combined to throw five shutout innings while striking out nine.
The Aberdeen offense was led by Mattew Etzel. He had a trio of singles and an RBI. Tavian Josenberger and Elio Prado had identical 2-for-5 batting lines with a run and two RBI each. Creed Willems had their only extra-base hit with his sixth double of the season. Mac Horvath went 0-for-5 with two strikeouts
Low-A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (Astros) 5, Delmarva Shorebirds 4
Three of the four Delmarva pitchers had nice games. Ty Weatherly started and looked great. Over four innings he allowed just one hit, no runs, and struck out seven. Later in the game, Grabiel Salazar tossed one scoreless inning and Randy Berigüete delivered two shutout frames and three strikeouts. The middle innings were the problem. That’s where Blake Money ran into some trouble, allowing five runs, but only one of them was earned. It all fell apart in the sixth inning as Angel Tejada made two errors, Brayan Hernández had another miscue, Money uncorked a wild pitch, and there was a balk called.
The Shorebirds had just one extra-base hit in the game, a double from Tejada. The only other hits in the game were singles, one each from Aron Estrada and Aneudis Mordán. The lineup did work three walks and steal a trio of bases. But it wasn’t enough to make up for that one bad inning on defense.
