Jordan Westburg, Gary Sánchez, and Ramón Laureano all homered in a Tides victory.
Triple-A: Norfolk Tides 6, Louisville Bats (Reds) 5
The big leaguers stole the show at Triple-A Norfolk. Jordan Westburg, Gary Sánchez, and Ramón Laureano all went deep in the win. All three players are more than capable of handling minor-league pitching, but it’s still encouraging to see the guys looking healthy.
The Tides jumped out to a 5-0 lead on the backs of the rehabbers and a pair of solo shots from Dylan Beavers and Jeremiah Jackson, but Norfolk gave all five runs back. Starter Cameron Weston posted five scoreless innings before surrendering a pair in the sixth.
Fortunately, the Tides were able to salvage the game. Fernando Peguero drove in Terrin Vavra for a go-ahead double in the ninth, and Houston Roth held the lead in the ninth.
Double-A: Akron RubberDucks (Guardians) 4, Chesapeake Baysox 1
The Baysox fell behind 4-0 before adding their only run in the top of the fifth. Frederick Bencosme launched his sixth home run to right-center field to get Chesapeake on the board. Creed Willems and Max Wagner singled to account for the only other Chesapeake hits.
Starter Ryan Long took the loss after allowing three runs over 2.1 innings.
High-A: Hudson Valley Renegades (Yankees) 11, Aberdeen IronBirds 2
Leandro Arias evened the score at one with an RBI ground out, and Aron Estrada provided the IronBirds a 2-1 lead with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first, but things got ugly after that. Hudson Valley rattled off 10 consecutive runs, and Aberdeen failed to score again.
Aberdeen starter Sebastian Gongora limited HV to only one run over the first 3.1 innings, but the Renegades broke things open with a five-run sixth.
Low-A: Fredericksburg Nationals 5, Delmarva Shorebirds 4
Delmarva took a 4-2 lead with a four-run fifth inning, but Fredericksburg battled back with a three-run sixth.
Colin Tuft drove in Delmarva’s first two runs with a single to left field. The Shorebirds took a 3-2 lead on an error, and Elis Cuevas plated the fourth run with a double.
Chase Allsup turned in a relatively decent start with two runs allowed over 4.2 innings. Allsup surrendered five hits, walked four, and struck out three.
