Bowie and Aberdeen made up for lost time with a doubleheader apiece, while Delmarva pitching got knocked around.

Triple-A: Norfolk Tides 4, Charlotte Knights (CWS) 2

A day after his team got knocked around by the Knights, Cade Povich delivered an ace-like start, throwing seven full innings and allowing only two runs on a pair of solo home runs, to go with eight strikeouts and one walk. His first short stint in the majors was rocky, but this sort of outing gives confidence. Bryan Baker and Colin Selby followed Povich with a scoreless inning apiece.

Outfielder Daniel Johnson had the big hit of the day, crushing an Earl Weaver Special to score Noelberth Romero and Terrin Vavra in the third inning. The Tides would tack on one more run when catcher David Bañuelos doubled home Nick Maton.

Box Score

Double-A: Somerset Patriots (NYY) 4, Bowie Baysox 1 – Game 1

This game was suspended due to rain on Saturday and the Baysox offense didn’t do much to regroup in their time off. The one run came on a long ball by Samuel Basallo, who had two of Bowie’s six hits.

This was actually a great outing for the pitchers. Trace Bright had allowed a solo home run in his 2.1 innings but after him, newcomer Patrick Reilly threw an excellent 3.1 scoreless innings in which he walked two and struck out five. Levi Stoudt and Dan Hammer allowed no runs in abbreviated outings. Dylan Heid was wild, walking three and allowing two hits in just two-thirds of an inning, and he took the loss. Nick Richmond allowed a hit.

Box Score

Double-A: Somerset Patriots (NYY) 6, Bowie Baysox 1 (F/7) – Game 2

Bowie was held scoreless until John Rhodes hit his seventh homer in the last inning of the doubleheader, one of just three Baysox hits on the day.

Four pitchers combined two allow six runs, just four earned, as Bowie committed three errors. Ryan Long was one of them: he gave up two earned runs (three total) in 3.2 innings of work but flubbed a pickoff throw. Houston Roth didn’t allow a run in parts of an inning. Kyle Brnovich allowed three runs to come home, one unearned on a Dylan Beavers throwing error and two on a home run. Ryan Hennen threw a scoreless inning.

Box Score

High-A: Aberdeen IronBirds 5, Brooklyn Cyclones (NYM) 2 (F/7) – Game 1

Douglas Hodo homered to put Aberdeen up early in their Sunday doubleheader and walked twice. Four runs scored in the fifth, two on a Tavian Josenberger single, and one each on a Maxwell Costes single and Carter Young’s groundout.

A quartet of pitchers turned in a solidly pitched game. Nick Avila and Yakob Hernández threw one scoreless inning each, Michael Forret earned a win with four one-run innings, and Yaqui Rivera allowed a solo home run in one inning of work.

Catcher Randy Fiorentino started a fun play in the third inning that ended with Brooklyn’s William Lugo getting caught stealing home: Fiorentino threw to second baseman Angel Tejada, who threw to third baseman Jalen Vasquez, who threw home again. Cool.

Box Score

High-A: Brooklyn Cyclones (NYM) 6, Aberdeen IronBirds 4 – Game 2

Less success for Aberdeen in this one. The IronBirds jumped out to a 4-0 lead with second baseman Tavian Josenberger, outfielder Reed Trimble and third baseman Carter Young in the middle of a pair of two-run rallies. Josenberger finished 2-for-3, Trimble 1-for-2 with a walk and two runs scored, and Carter Young 1-for-3 with 3 RBI. Catcher Carlos Rodríguez doubled.

Simon Portes kept Brooklyn off the board for three innings, but allowed two to score in the fourth, then one more in the fifth plus two inherited runners Graham Firoved couldn’t strand. Kyle Virbitsky threw a scoreless inning and Cooper Chandler allowed one run in the seventh on three hits.

Box Score

Low-A: Myrtle Beach Pelicans (CHC) 13, Delmarva Shorebirds 5

Lots of runs allowed today. Juan Rojas retired two hitters and gave up three runs. Jiorgeny Casimiri and Randy Berigüete injected a note of competence, but Cole Urman allowed eight runs in the last five innings.

The Shorebirds doubled home a run. Stiven Acevedo singled home two runs, and Maikol Hernández drove home one more. Leandro Arias went 2-for-6 with an RBI. Aron Estrada walked twice.
