Norfolk is the last team in action this year, and they played two games on Wednesday. It was a day full of good news down on the farm.

Triple-A: Norfolk Tides 2, Nashville Sounds (Brewers) 1 – F/7 – Game 1

The headline coming into this game was the Triple-A debut for 2022 draft pick Dylan Beavers. He led off and played right field for the Tides in this one, going 1-for-3 with a run and a strikeout. Samuel Basallo was also 1-for-3. Jud Fabian drove in Norfolk’s first run with a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning. J.D. Davis walked things off with a single to score Noelberth Romero in the bottom of the seventh.

Good news: Chayce McDermott pitched for the first time since July 30 due to a stress reaction in his right scapula. Better news: He was good! McDermott tossed three hitless innings, struck out five, and walked three. Danny Coulombe made another rehab appearance, recording two outs and allowing a hit. Corbin Martin worked a scoreless 1.1 innings. Brooks Kriske gave up a solo homer in his lone inning. And it was Kade Strowd that snagged the win with a scoreless seventh inning.

Triple-A: Norfolk Tides 8, Nashville (Brewers) Sounds 7 – F/8 – Game 2

This was a rather productive game from the Norfolk offense. They scored eight runs on 10 hits and six walks, and went 5-for-9 with runners in scoring position. Basallo led the way with a double, a home run, and three RBI. Maverick Handley went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI, two runs scored, and a walk. Beavers struck out three times in his second Triple-A game, but he also walked this game off with an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning.

The Tides needed all of those runs because Adrian Houser had a tough night on the mound. He did eat six innings and threw 103 pitches, but he also served up seven runs on 10 hits, two walks, and five strikeouts. Nolan Hoffman earned the win after throwing two scoreless innings to wrap up a doubleheader sweep for the Tides.
