The Orioles traded Ryan O’Hearn, the starting All-Star designated hitter, and outfielder Ramón Laureano along with cash considerations to the San Diego Padres in exchange for six prospects.
They are: 19-year-old left-hander Boston Bateman, 22-year-old right-hander Tyson Neighbors, 22-year-old right-hander Tanner Smith, 20-year-old shortstop Cobb Hightower, 22-year-old infielder Brandon Butterworth, and 21-year-old first baseman/outfielder Victor Figueroa.
O’Hearn, who came to the Orioles in 2023 from Kansas City, was hitting .283 with an .837 OPS with 13 home runs and 43 RBIs this season.
Laureano, who signed as a free agent before the season, has a $6.5 million option for 2026. He was hitting .290 with an .884 OPS, 15 home runs and 46 RBIs.
Bateman, San Diego’s second-round draft pick in 2024, was 5-5 with a 4.08 ERA in 15 games for Single-A Elsinore. Neighbors, their fourth-round pick in 2024, is 3-0 with a 1.85 ERA and six saves with Double-A San Antonio and Elsinore. He’s struck out 64 and walked 18 in 43 2/3 innings. Smith, the 15th -ound pick last year from Harvard, is 1-3 with a 3.46 ERA with Lake Elsinore and the Arizona Complex League Padres.
Hightower, the third-round pick, was hitting .239 with a home run and 21 RBIs as well as seven steals for Lake Elsinore. Figueroa, last year’s 18th-round pick, was hitting .318 with 12 home runs and 47 RBIs and a 1.008 OPS in 64 games for Lake Elsinore and the ACL Padres.
Butterworth, the 12th-round pick last year, was hitting .267 with a .782 OPS, 11 home runs and 46 RBIs for Single-A Fort Wayne.
