The Baltimore Orioles lost to the Blue Jays on Wednesday 7-6 in 10 innings. A three-run eighth inning allowed the Birds to tie the game at 6 and gave them the opportunity to win two in a row against the Blue Jays.
With two outs in the eighth, back to back doubles by Cedric Mullins (1 for 5, 1 run scored) and Austin Hays (1 for 3, 2 runs scored, 1 RBI, 1 HBP) plated the first run of the inning and then Ryan Mountcastle’s (2 for 4, 2 HR, 2 runs scored, 3 RBI) 12th homerun of the season accounted for the other two runs.
The Orioles went three up and three down in the ninth and in extra innings all the could do was advance the ghost runner, Kyle Stowers (0 for 4), to third base via a Jorge Mateo (0 for 3) sacrifice bunt.
Adley Rutschman checked off two more boxes. Having already made his MLB debut and getting his first hit, Rutschman recorded his first homerun (411 ft. with 103.2 MPH exit velo.) and first RBI. He finished the game 2 for 4 with a double, a homerun, a run scored and 2 RBI.
Starter Bruce Zimmermann gave up 6 runs on 11 hits over 4.2 innings pitched. He also struck out 2 and surrendered 3 homeruns.
The pitcher of record was Felix Bautista (0.0 IP, 1 H, 1 UER); Vladimir Guerrero, Jr singled on the second pitch from Bautista, allowing Bo Bichette to score the walk-off run.
