O’s Drop Two To The Jays

September 6, 2022 by Orioles Hangout

The Baltimore Orioles played a traditional doubleheader with the Toronto Blue Jays on Labor Day Monday. The Holiday was not a happy one for the Birds however, as they lost both ends of the twinbill, 7-3 and 8-4, falling 2.0 additional games back in the race for the third Wild Card spot.

Game 1 started out on a promising note as Anthony Santander (2 for 4, 2 Runs Scored, 2 RBI) hit a 414′ homerun in the first inning that landed on Eutaw Street. Santander hit a second homerun, his 27th of the year, 411′ to left field in the eighth inning.

The Orioles did allow two runs to score on potential inning-ending double plays that were mishandled by Gunnar Henderson (1 for 4) at second base.

Ryan Mountcastle went 1 for 4 with a double and 1 RBI, while Adley Rutschman went 2 for 4 with a run scored.

Mike Baumann (1-3) started and allowed 3 runs on 8 hits with 2 strikeouts over 5.0 innings: he was tagged with the loss.

DL Hall allowed 3 runs on 4 hits and walked 1 in 0.1 inning.

BOX SCORE

Game 2 was the Bo Bichette show. Toronto’s shortstop tagged Orioles pitching for three homeruns, finishing with a line of 3 for 5 with 3 runs scored and 5 RBI. Bichette alone would have beaten the Orioles in this game.

Adley Rutschman went 3 for 5 with a double, a homerun, 1 run scored and 2 RBI.

Rougned Odor went 1 for 3 with a homerun, 2 runs scored, 1 RBI and a walk.

Kyle Stowers went 2 for 4 with 1 run scored.

Keegan Akin (3-2) made an emergency start in the game due to Jordan Lyles illness and allowed 2 runs on 2 hits with 1 walk and 4 strikeouts in 2.1 innings of work; he took the loss.

Bruce Zimmermann pitched the final 6.0 innings, allowing 5 runs on 8 hits while surrendering 3 homeruns, walking 1 and striking out 3.

BOX SCORE

2022 Record: 71-64, 4.5 GB Toronto for the third Wild Card spot.

Next Game: 9/6 vs. Toronto @ 7:05 pm
