The lockout necessitated adjustments to the 2022 MLB schedule. One of those adjustments required the Baltimore Orioles to play a day-night doubleheader in Boston Saturday. The teams split the doubleheader with Boston taking the day game 5-3 while the Orioles prevailed 4-2 in the nightcap.
In Game 1, the O’s jumped out an early 1-0 lead in the 1st only to see it evaporate in the 2nd when the BoSox plated 3 runs. The Orioles tied the game in the 5th and then saw Boston pull away with runs in both the 6th and 7th innings.
Robinson Chirinos went 1 for 3 with a homerun, 1 run scored and 2 RBI.
Anthony Santander went 1 for 4 with 1 RBI.
Starter Jordan Lyles struggled through 4.1 innings (3 Runs, 9 Hits, 1 BB, 3 K) and was relieved by Keegan Akin (1-1). Akin was not as sharp as he had been recently, allowing 2 runs on 2 hits (1 homerun) with a walk and a strikeout. He took the loss.
Game 2 saw the Orioles put up a four spot in the 3rd inning and despite being held without a hit from the 4th to the 8th innings maintained the lead and recorded the win.
Rougned Odor went 1 for 4 with a homerun, 1 run scored and 3 RBI.
Ramon Urias went 1 for 4 with a run scored and 1 RBI; he started the Orioles scoring.
Austin Hays went 2 for 5 with a run scored and a stolen base.
Denyi Reyes started and allowed 1 run on 4 hits, walked 1 and struck out 1 over 3.2 innings.
Winning pitcher Joey Krehbiel (2-3) gave up 1 hit and struck out 2 in 1.1 innings.
On his son’s birthday, Jorge Lopez (1.1 IP, 1 R, 1 H) earned the save.
The game ended on a sweet Odor to Mateo to Mountcastle double play.
