The Baltimore Orioles won Friday night in Cincinnati by a score of 6-2. Like the Skyline Chili Cincinnati is known for, and the ways it can be ordered, the Orioles used a “four-way” ninth inning to go from tied at 2 to ultimately winning by 4.
It took six innings for Anthony Santander (3 for 4, 1 run scored, 2 RBI, 1 HBP) to equal Joey Votto’s first inning 2 run homerun with one of his own.
The four-way started quietly with a Ramon Urias (0 for 2, 2 BB) walk. Ryan McKenna pinch ran for Urias and went to third on a Rougned Odor (1 for 4, 1 run scored) double. Cedric Mullins (1 for 5, 1 run scored, 2 RBI) plated the pair with a single and then stole 2nd base. Adley Rutschman (1 for 4, 1 run scored, 1 BB) walked to put runners on 1st and 2nd. A Trey Mancini (1 for 2, 1 run scored, 1 RBI, 3 BB) groundball hit the 2nd base bag and caromed into Right Field (sound familiar Josh Lowe?) allowing Mullins to score the 5th run and moving Rutschman to 3rd.
Santander was hit by a pitch on the right upper leg and the teams met on the field to discuss the incident before Ryan Mountcastle hit a sacrifice fly that NickSenzel nonchalantly threw into the infield, allowing Rutschman (who didn’t appear to be tagging up) to tag up and score the 6th and final run.
Kyle Bradish started and allowed 2 runs on 5 hits, including the Votto HR, while striking out 7 and throwing a wild pitch over 5.0 innings.
Dillon Tate (2-3) was the pitcher of record, allowing 2 hits over 1.1 scoreless innings of relief.
