Baltimore Orioles’ starting pitcher Cade Povich is headed to the 15-day DL, per reports from the Baltimore Sun. Povich pitched 3.2 innings and didn’t surrender a run against the Angels on Sunday in an 11-2 Orioles victory.
Right-handed relief pitcher Colin Selby was called up from Triple-A Norfolk to bolster the bullpen, but the left-handed Povich’s injury leaves a big hole in the rotation. This could pave the way for southpaw Trevor Rogers’ return, who pitched a stellar 6.1 innings in a victory over Boston back on May 24.
The Orioles face the Tampa Bay Rays tonight at 7:35 PM EST in St. Petersburg with Zach Eflin taking the mound. Povich’s next-scheduled start would have been Friday against the Yankees, but the O’s have a hole in their rotation on Wednesday, so we could see Rogers make a start then. Rogers’ last outing was June 12th for Norfolk against the Nashville Sounds in which he pitched 4 innings and allowed 2 runs on 4 hits.
