Rutschman, Henderson leading at their positions in All-Star voting as Orioles make strong showing

June 18, 2024 by Baltimore Baseball

The Orioles’ success on the field has translated to success among voters for next month’s All-Star Game.

Catcher Adley Rutschman and shortstop Gunnar Henderson are leading at their positions while first baseman Ryan Mountcastle and third baseman Jordan Westburg are both second.

Second baseman Jorge Mateo and designated hitter Ryan O’Hearn are fourth at their positions. Among outfielders, Anthony Santander is fifth, Colton Cowser seventh and Cedric Mullins is 11th.

Rutschman, who made the team as a substitute last year, has 792,857 votes, third overall in the American League behind New York Yankees outfielders Aaron Judge and Juan Soto. Rutschman is leading Kansas City’s Salvador Perez by more than 200,000 votes.

Henderson, with 740,436 votes, has a nearly 200,000 vote lead over the Royals’ Bobby Witt Jr.

Mountcastle, with 693,594 votes, trails Toronto’s Vladimir Guerrero Jr. by about 52,000 votes while Westburg’s 366,670 votes are far behind Cleveland’s José Ramírez’s 742,910 and just ahead of Boston’s Rafael Devers’ 342,046.

Mateo’s 276,440 votes trail Houston’s Jose Altuve, Texas’ Marcus Semien and Kansas City’s Michael Massey and are about 10,000 votes ahead of the Guardians’ Andrés Gíminez.

O’Hearn’s 290,091 votes trail Houston’s Yordan Alvarez, New York’s Giancarlo Stanton and Cleveland’s David Fry.

Santander’s 321,333 trail Judge, Soto, the Astros’ Kyle Tucker and the Guardian’s Steven Kwan. New York’s Alex Verdugo has 293,984 while Cowser has 278,573. Mullins, who started in the 2021 All-Star Game, has 209,511.

Voting continues through noon on June 27th and the top two vote-getters at each position and six leading outfielders will be announced on MLB Network at 6 o’clock that evening.

Phase 2 voting begins at noon on June 30th and continues through July 3rd at noon. Winners will be announced on ESPN at 7 p.m. on July 3rd.

The pitchers and substitutes will be revealed on ESPN at 5:30 p.m. on July 7th.

The All-Star Game will be played on July 16th at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
